Environmental Door is a family-owned and operated garage door company that has proudly served the West Michigan community since 1970, when founders Bob and Marilyn Hanen burg began the business out of their home, storing inventory at a family farm in Lamont before growing into a full-fledged operation on 3rd Avenue NW in Grand Rapids. Over more than five decades, the company has evolved from a small husband-and-wife venture into a well-established, multi-generational family business, now owned and led by the couple’s children, Mark, Michelle, and Robb, who purchased the company in 2019 and continue to run it with the same hard-working, customer-first values their parents instilled from the start.
Environmental Door specializes in the sale, design, installation, and repair of residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural garage doors and openers, offering a wide selection of styles including carriage house and traditional designs from trusted manufacturers such as Garaga, Wayne Dalton, Amarr, Midland, and LiftMaster. What sets the company apart is its commitment to long-term solutions rather than quick fixes: every service call, whether for a door they originally installed or not, includes their signature 26-point tune-up designed to maximize the safety, functionality, and lifespan of a customer’s garage door system.
In addition to new installations and full replacements, the team handles common repair needs such as broken springs, malfunctioning openers, damaged panels, and worn weather stripping, and also offers custom options like window inserts, wireless keypads, and smart-home-compatible openers. Customers can visit the company’s showroom in Grand Rapids to see full-sized door models in person, or use the online Garage and Wayne Dalton design tools to preview colors and styles from home before requesting a free estimate.
With same-day and 24/7 emergency service options, competitive rates, and a reputation built on decades of trust within the community, Environmental Door continues to position itself as the go-to local expert for anyone looking to repair, replace, or upgrade their garage door.
